Division: Teens 14-15
Symantha Donaldson
Which box do you train at?
Hi! My name is Symantha. I am a 14-15 year old teen girl athlete. I go to Crossfit Vertigo on the outskirts of Houston and Pearland.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I have been doing Crossfit for three years now, and I still love it as much as I did on day one! I started when my mom found a Crossfit kids class on Facebook after I had a major injury in gymnastics. I guess social media can be good sometimes.
Is this your first competition? If not what is your most memorable competition you participated in and why?
My first competition was when I was 13. I remember it was on May 30th. I remember that because that’s my moms birthday, and she would be really mad if I forgot that it was on that day. I remember that the first workout was 15.5. The one with 27-21-15-9 calorie row and burpees. I absolutely hated, still hate, rowing, so my first coach, James, had to call before hand to give me a pep talk. When I did try 15.5 during the open, I stopped in my round of 15, because I just didn’t like it. Wow! I have come really far from there now! I ended up only 10 reps shy from finishing the wod when I did it at the competition with a 15 minute time cap. A lady in charge of the competition came over to me after, and she told me that she was very impressed at how young I was able to start in the sport! My most memorable competition though would have to be the fittest games in Austin, Texas last January. My now coach and I both made it! That was really cool! This year we are recruiting more people to do it. I meet a group of incredible girls that I was competing with. One ended up 5th at the games this year! Even though it was cold the whole time we all made the best out of the situation. One girl was from New Jersey, and she thought it was hilarious how we were saying that we were cold. I can tell you there was a lot of laughs. Also, now I know I can put on wrist wraps 30 seconds before they say go, because who wants to worry about wrist wraps when your waiting with all the other girls for 20 minutes. That’s your time to socialize. My coach might have been mad I didn’t have them all, but it was all part of the fun! It also was a big growing experience for me.
What is your favorite Hero or Girl WOD?
My favorite WOD has to be Murph. I love the physical challenge of it, and knowing that I am doing it for someone who has served to give me my rights I have everyday. It’s also pretty cool that on the last run you can no longer feel your legs.
What is your favorite workout song?
My favorite workout song has to be “Get back up” by TobyMac. I am Catholic and faith is a big factor in my life. This song really gives me the motivation I need when we have a hard workout.
If you could do a partner WOD with any Games athlete, who would it be?
If I could partner with any games athlete, I would pick either Angelo Dicicco or Sara Sigmudsdottir. They both seem like very nice and funny people! Plus they are both in incredible shape! I would love to meet them one day and maybe get to do a wod with them, even though I know they will crush me. Thank you so much for reading (if you got to this point😝) I am super excited to get to participate in your competition!
P.S.
If mine does get posted make sure to add that Charlie Long has kept me motivated too. He told me I need to start telling people that!😂
